Our website is currently under construction!!
The Society of American Foresters (SAF) is the leading scientific and educational professional forestry organization in the United States. The SAF was founded in 1900 by Gifford Pinchot; in 2000, the SAF celebrated its 100th anniversary. Currently, there are over 18,000 members, including: public and private natural resource professionals, researchers, CEO’s, administrators, educators, and students -- all working towards improving the health and productivity of our forests. Joining the SAF is an excellent way to explore the forestry profession, keep up with new advances, and find career opportunities through networking.
The Penn State University chapter of the SAF is a student- run organization. We have bi-weekly meetings to discuss forestry issues and events, and host presentations form guest lecturers on forestry and related topics. Each year we send a group of students to regional meetings as well as to the national convention to learn about current forestry topics and issues, compete in the Quiz Bowl, network, and have fun. If you are interested in joining the Penn State Student Chapter of the SAF, please contact Derek Larsen for more information and upcoming meeting dates.
