Meet Your Chaplain

The Rev. Jim Zmyslo is the Interim Episcopal Chaplain of the Episcopal Campus Ministries (ECM) at Penn State University, University Park, PA.  He was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania in December 2007 having completed requirements for the Master of Divinity curriculum at The General Theological Seminary, New York City in May 2007.  In 1992 he earned a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA.  He continued post graduate work in Electrical Engineering at Penn State from 1996 to 2000.
He retired from the Navy in 1996 after serving in several capacities in the field of naval intelligence.  His employment with the Applied Research Laboratory, Penn State in 1996, after retirement as a naval officer, established his initial connection with the State College area.  From October 2000 until beginning seminary studies in September 2004, he worked for an engineering consulting company based out of Arlington, VA,  periodically shuttling back and forth to Washington DC. 
Charlotte, his wife, is a life-long educator and is currently the principal at Corl Street and Ferguson Township Elementary Schools within the State College Area School District.   
Since arriving in the State College area, Jim and Charlotte have been actively involved in the life of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, State College.  Before beginning studies for the priesthood, Jim served as a member of the Saint Andrew’s Vestry as well as several parish committees.
