??? Frequently Asked Questions ???

Who will be teaching my course?
The EMSA has many experienced instructors who have completed their CPR and instructor courses through the American Heart Association.  Many of the instructors are also certified as EMTs and many are students here at Penn State!

Will I receive Penn State course credit for my CPR class?
Unfortunately, the American Heart Association (AHA) CPR classes are non-credit courses offered by EMSA and Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Where will my course be taught?
Penn State reserves different classrooms for each class. After you register, the CPR Coordinator will email you where your specific class will be.  If you have a groups that is interested in being trained, accommodations can be made to bring the CPR classes to you.

When will the classes be?
Some dates are included with course descriptions for scheduled classes, however additional classes may be added throughout the semester on the EMSA website. Special classes may be scheduled for clubs or groups. Contact the CPR Coordinator for additional information.

What if I've never had any CPR training before?
That's fine. No prior knowledge is required to take any of the classes EMSA offers.  Decide which level of training will best suit your needs and we'll help you learn what you need to know.

What should I wear?
The courses involve hands-on practice sessions so please, wear something comfortable that you can move around in.

Will there be a test?
For some courses, a written set of questions and a pra ctical session is required for a course completion card. But don't worry, you have an ample amount of time to study in the class and the instructors will help anyone who is uncomfortable with their skills.

What class should I take?
Course descriptions and intended audiences are listed on the CPR class types webpage. If you are required to have CPR training, then you most likely need the Healthcare Provider course. This would include lifeguards, nursing students, EMTs and students with a variety of other needs. If you have any questions, please feel free to email the CPR Coordinator for more information.
