Whats New?!

      January 27, 2008

I hope you all had a great weekend and are eager and ready for this next EA meeting. This Tuesday the 29th of January at 7:00pm we will be holding our next meeting in 104 Rackley. This week we are making the first list of people for the trip so if you intend on going to the Fed you must show up to this meeting. Please remember there is a limited number of seats on the bus and depending on the amount of people at the meeting everyone may not get to go. If you are interested in going you will need to bring the following all in an envelope with your name on it.

- $60 which will be the total cost to you due to the possibility of high demand (Cash or Check made payable to PSU Economics Association **No I.O.U's**)
- Your name with your Social Security Number or your Passport ID# with your country of origin
- Your cell phone number which we can reach you at while on the trip
- The phone number, name, and relation of an emergency contact
- Your date of birth
- Your PSU ID (ex. sqs5072)

The people who will be given first option to go are the people who showed up to the meetings last semester. So if you were not a member last semester and you are planning on paying for this trip via check I would suggest bringing your checkbook with you and check with us prior to writing the check. Please remember we will be staying extremely close to the White House and the Federal Reserve in a very nice Hotel not a Motel. The transportation there and back is also included so with all this being said we felt that charging $60 which was the same cost members paid last year is extremely reasonable.

Also the $60 will be refundable up until the meeting we will be holding on March 18th if you decide you will no longer be able to go. So we will also have a waiting list just in case people decide they can not go.

Finally we will be discussing topics this week and if you have one you are interested that is in anyway related to economics please come prepared to present. If not I will spend 10-20 minutes talking about various new things happening in the Economy. Then the meeting will commence between 8:00pm and 8:15pm.

          See you all Tuesday night!

- Shawn Snyder

Remember the meeting will be held in 104 Rackley and will start at 7:00pm sharp January 29th.

      January 17, 2008

Welcome back everyone! I hope your first week back to classes is going well and that you are ready and waiting for a busy Spring semester! We will be getting the location of our meetings this Monday or Tuesday and I will keep you all in touch about where it will be. As for when we will be holding our meetings on Tuesday nights at 7:00pm due to popular demand. So far this semester we have a date set for the trip to the fed along with a date for the "Great Debate". For further details please come to our next meeting where we will discuss the particulars. I will keep this short so I hope you all have a great weekend and you will be hearing from me early next week.

I hope you'll had a great weekend and that everyone did well on their Econ exams during this past week or two. This weeks meeting will be on Thursday the 11th of October at 6:30pm in 104 Rackley. I hope we are all ready for this weeks meeting where I am planning to finally start our topic presentations from you guys. So if you are ready to present this week just send me an email prior to Thursday so that I can set the meeting up accordingly. Just email me at S1@psu.edu. I am also going to share some ideas that I have for research projects since no one else has given me any ideas. If you do have ideas once again please email me prior to Thursday.\

I understand that the attendance was fairly small this week at the OCC presentation (about 10) and hope this doesn't become a normal occurrence. I know a lot of people had Exams but I would still appreciate it if you could at least show up for a 30 min presentation. I know since I wasn't there I may sound hypocritical but I had to meet my Mentor's for the first time and it was something I simply couldn't miss. Since we have decided that there will only be approximately 45 seats on this Fed trip this spring we will have to severely limit who can go. Thus, I am planning to take attendance at each and every EA event and then when we start sign-ups for the Fed trip I will start from the top and work my way down according to attendance. So please show up and please be ACTIVE. The EA is nothing without its members and we need each and every one of you to take an active role to make this club a success.

Once again the meeting place is 104 Rackley this Thursday the 11th of October. I am looking forward to your emails and I hope each and every one of you have a great week. See you on Thursday.

Respectfully,
           - Shawn

P.S. To all new members you are still welcome to join us. It is never to late to gain an active role within the Economics Association.

Just to let you all know we do not have a meeting this week. Our next meeting will be held in 104 Rackley on October the 4th at 6:30pm. Also here is the link to Temple's Economics Association's discussion board where we have been invited. So feel free to sign-up and ask all the economics questions you maybe have or any economics topic you feel like discussing.            Today we have decided on a new room for our meetings. The building is Rackley and the room number is 104. This new room is much nicer so I do not believe we will have problems with temperature. We will also have a computer and projector so that we can have power points and other nice things that technology brings us. The next meeting will be held Thursday September 20th at 6:30pm and again the room is Rackley 104. If there are problems with this please contact me and bring this up in our next meeting because we are looking for the best location for all our members. For those of you who do not know where Rackley is located it is directly to the back left of Chambers. If you still can not figure out where this is please feel free to ask.

We will be collecting dues on the 20th and we can accept cash or check made out to PSU Economics Association. The dues will be $15 for the entire year or $10 per semester. I will be releasing more information along with reiterating what is in this message within a week or so. Hope to see you all at our next meeting.

      August 31, 2007

Today we finally were assigned our room to meet and I am hoping it is large enough to hold all the people I expect to show up for our meetings. Our room will officially be Osmond 106 which is Osmond Laboratory directly across from the HUB. We have the room from 6:30pm – 8:25pm every Thursday so I will be expecting everyone to aim to be there between 6:30 and 7 that way we can get started at 7. We WILL have meetings each and every week so that way if you can’t make it one week hopefully you can make it the next.

This meeting will be very informal and we will discuss things such as activities for the year along with dues and some other topics. All in all I hope to see a lot of new faces and am looking forward to all the activities we will be doing this year. Thanks for your time and see you there!
