Crux
"Not all who wander are lost." J.R.R. Tolkien
Crux, which is named after the most crucial move in a climb, is an outdoor group that focuses on leadership development and discipleship. This group uses the outdoors as a common ground by which to relate to the gospel and to those around them. There are weekly meetings that are held at a nearby apartment in which the group plays games, enjoys fellowship and food, and delves into a book (either of the Bible or of their choosing). Often on weekends, they venture outside and enjoy creation through either hiking, rock climbing, caving or even sledding.
Spring break trips are often the highlight of the group, where trips are run to different areas of the country. Recent trips have been to the Everglades and the Carolinas, with the newest one being aimed at Equador, with an emphasis on missions and mountaineering.
Steph Wessel, a staff member for the CCO and resident of State College, PA, is the founder and leader of Crux. She lives with her husband, Erik Wessel, on the east side of Penn State's campus.
Currently, Crux meets every Wednesday from 8 - 10 pm at 10 Miller Hall, University Park, PA 16802 (also known as Steph and Erik's apartment).
