History of Argentine Tango at Penn State Beginning of Tango in State College: The club's advisor, Barbara Kennedy, and president, Ben Hendrick in Spring of 2000 taught the first Argentine Tango lessons at Penn State in four consecutive lessons every Wednesday from March 22 to April 12. Eventually, an Argentine Tango study group formed. In 2004 a few of the club's more advanced dancers, like Stephanie Shields, Barbara Kennedy, and Nina Federov, began a tradition of holding milongas (tango parties) every so often. This tradition has grown strong, and in 2007 the club began holding a milonga each month on campus. We began performing at Argentine Tango demonstrations at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts with Tango singer Adrian Oceanu in 2006, and have continued every summer since. These demonstrations have taken place in the Penn State Theatre downtown on S. Allen St. In May of 2008 we performed at a Tango demonstration with Adrian Ocneanu and Adrian Wanner for the State College Choral Society. Teachers we've had: Graciela Calo and Claudio Orso in Feb.
