Fundraising
How it benefits YOU!
Why Should you Volunteer to Fundraise for the PSU BDC?
Fundraising not only provides the means to keep your membership costs down, but it also allows the club to bring in professional instructors, host special events, and maintain the equipment necessary to provide so many quality lessons throughout the week.
In addition, we now have a new plan in place that is designed to financially assist the individual who participates in fundraising.
What happens to the money that is raised for the club?
In the past, 100% of the money that was raised would go directly to the club; however, starting in the beginning of Feb. 2008, we have instituted a new plan that sets aside a percentage of the funds for the club, and the rest gets divided amongst the individual volunteers to help with certain costs associated with ballroom dancing.
How does this new plan work exactly?
To put it simply, for any fundraising activity, 60% of the funds raised get divided equally amongst the volunteers who participated for the duration of the activity.
For example, every summer, some club members get together and work in the concession stands at the BJC. For a single event worked at the BJC, the club can easily get $300. 60% of that $300 is $180. Typically, about 6 volunteers are needed to make this amount, so $180 would be split 6 ways. This means that each volunteer would get $30 set aside for them to spend on Ballroom Dancing!!!
Please note: You will not be able to use any money earned through fundraising unless you have paid your dues to the club.
Will each volunteer get the money they earn for themselves in cash?
No, the money will not be given to you in cash. Instead, detailed records will be kept for each individual which will track how much they earn for each event. When they wish to spend the money they have earned, they must make a request to the club, and either a reimbursement will be issued, or a check will be made directly to the competition, company, instructor, etc.
What can the money earned through fundraising be used for?
You may use the money for Competitions (Travel, Registration, Hotels), Professional Workshops, certain Membership Fees, Private Lessons from Professionals, and Ballroom Dance Shoes.
The money cannot be used for clothing (including costumes).
