• meeting started promptly at 6:30pm with introduction of club officers and the club

• a lot of new faces!

• IMPORTANT: dues will be collected at the next meeting, Oct 5--$6/semester, $10/2 semesters

• discussion of ideas for the club

• pizza arrived at 7pm

• tour of the planetarium and the rooftop

• ran out of time for scavenger hunt, which will be postponed till the next meeting

• watched October Sky  to celebrate 50th anniversary of Sputnik's launch, which was on Oct 4, 1957

November 2, 2007

• pizza arrived at ~6:30pm

• announcements began at ~6:50pm

• tour to the Swift control center has been postponed--an email with more information has been sent out

• idea to redo the Tour of the Solar System gained substantial support:
  (the Tour of the Solar System begins on the wall across the hall from 530 Davey)
  > this will be an ongoing project to be finished by the end of Spring 2008
  > it'll be mainly split into two sections: the design and the information
  > if you have any ideas on the design, please email one of the officers or attend the next meeting
  > we'll be dividing up the task at the next meeting
  > the goal is to finish updating the Tour by the end of Spring 2008, if not before AstroFest 2008

• the meeting was a "round-table" discussion

• topics discussed: black holes -> string theory -> cosmology -> Moon -> Pluto -> dark matter -> modified Newtonian dynamics
  -> "knowing" vs. "understanding" :-)

• Open House was extremely successful, albeit slightly chilly

• observed targets: Comet Holmes (!!), Uranus, Ring Nebula (M57), Andromeda (M31), Pleiades, Globular Cluster (M13/15?), attempted Neptune, Albireo
