Our mission
- The Penn State Arab Student Union shall promote and enhance contact among Arabic-speaking people.
- The Penn State Arab Student Union shall encourage cultural interaction between Arabic and non-Arabic speaking students at the Pennsylvania State University and the town communities.
- The ASU shall promote academic excellence.
- The ASU shall support social and scientific innovation in the community.
- The ASU shall promote world peace and cultural awareness.
The Penn State ASU logo
The Penn State ASU logo was accepted by the ASU E-board in November of 2007 from a leading Arab American artist and linguist Fayeq Oweis. Dr. Fayeq Oweis is a professor who has taught at several universities, most recently he is a professor of Arabic language and Culture at Santa Clara University. One of his many master calligraphy pieces of art can be found at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications, among them “Encyclopedia of Arab American Artists”. Furthermore, Dr. Oweis has made several media appearances, notably on the “Mawi’d fill al-mahjar” on Aljazeera Arabic Channel which featured a half-hour long program about his biography.
