Airsoft: The Basics

Airsoft is an extreme outdoor or indoor sport created as a competition against paintball. Airsoft uses air to propel 6mm bbs out of the gun which is power by a battery, gas, or by manually cocking back a spring. Some of the advantages of airsoft versus paintball are that it does not involve messy paint, the guns look realistic and less bulky then paintball guns, and is less expensive to pick up and start playing. Paintball leaves large size welts and can be painful when being hit by one, where as on the otherhand when playing airsoft it is less painful but the hits are still painful enough to know that you were hit.
Since airsoft leaves no visible mark on the persons clothing it is based on an honor system, where each person is responsible for being honest when hit. Most of the time the person will react when hit because of the sudden sensation and will want to get out of the way from another hit. This leads into what should a person do if they are hit and now out of the current game. The person that was hit should fall to the ground as they would if actually hit it real life and either then stand up with their gun over their head to signal that they are “dead” or remain on the ground for the duration of the game.
Some games consist of a thirty minute round with two or three teams where each team has to complete an objective given to them before the round. It is important to use team work and communication to accomplish these objectives because without them you will find that it makes the task very hard to complete.
