Employment opportunities to disadvantaged groups within tribal communities through skill training

Project Proposal from Academy of Development Science (ADS)

Synopsis

Academy of Development Science, as a people oriented Science & Technology organisation, is primarily concerned with the problems faced by village communities, particularly the tribals, the landless and small & marginal farmers. Major objective of the organisation is to promote sustainable development by seeking active participation of the community.

The proposed project seeks to provide gainful employment opportunities to marginalised groups (mainly women and the handicapped) through skill training in bamboo craft and wood work.

Specifically the support is requested for the following:

The funding requested is for an amount of Rs. 1,71,400 (approx US $4000).
 

Background

Venkatesh Iyer (formerly from AID-State College) and Ravi Kuchimanchi, both AID-India volunteers visited ADS on August 11, 1999. Following their visit to ADS near Karjat in Maharastra this proposal was received.

The proposal was received by AID-State College on August 21, 1999 through Venkatesh Iyer.

Venkatesh Iyer had suggested that atleast one other chapter review the proposal with us (as it is for a relatively big amount). The new AID-San Diego chapter will be jointly reviewing this project with AID-PSU.
