Membership

There are 3 types of membership in AED: General Membership, Honorary Membership, and Inducted Membership. A description of each is listed below:

General Membership

A member who attends the general meetings. They might be involved in some or all activities of AED (Blood Cup, THON, Public Health Fair, etc.), however they fail to meet honors membership requirements (See honors membership requirements), or have yet to become an inducted member.

Honors Membership

Honors membership is a way for AED to encourage more active involvement in the club. Members will earn points based on the number of events and meetings they attend and the volunteer work they do each semester. The list below explains the system in further detail and shows several volunteer opportunities. Becoming an Honors Member will be beneficial to sophomores and juniors to put on their professional school applications and resumes, and as seniors, graduates will wear an honors cord at graduation. These are benefits only offered through AED, and we strongly encourage everyone to become active. Once honors membership has been earned, you must continue to fulfill honors requirements every subsequent semester in order to retain honors status.

Benefits of Becoming an Honors Member:

All honors members have the benefit of including your honors membership status on resumes, applications, etc.

Juniors who complete honors requirements will have their name recommended to the Pre-Health Professional Evaluation Committee as an AED active member (current sophomores can also complete honors in both their second and third year, and their recommendation from AED to the committee will note this).

Seniors who complete honors requirements will receive Honors Cords to wear for graduation ceremonies.

Honors Membership Requirements:

Attendance at General Meetings: Members must attend 75% of general AED meetings, which are held every other week throughout the semester. This typically translates into 4-5 meetings per semester. In addition, attendance at the new member meeting is required. Additional allowances can be made with a valid excuse.

Committee Membership: Members must sign up for at least one of the following committees: THON, Blood Cup, Public Health Fair, or Social committee. Not all committees are available each semester.

Service Points: Members must complete 5 service points per semester. Sample opportunities are listed below. Members will report their service hours to the VP of New Membership by the end of each semester. A maximum of 2 points can be earned on one project. At least 1 of your 5 service points must come from canning for THON, however some exceptions can be made in certain circumstances.

Social Activities: Members must attend one AED social event each semester, but attending more is encouraged!

Canning: Members must go canning for THON at least one day each semester. Canning for THON counts for 1 service point.

    -5K run/walk for charity event
