What We've Done
Valentine's Day Roses
All too often women are taken advantage of on college campuses and treated as mere sexual objects. In a culture that ignores the intrinsic dignity of women, Students For Life believes that women are beautiful and deserve to be respected—period. To show this, Students For Life gives out free roses on Valentine's Day to any woman who passes by the Willard Building. Each year, this is a hot topic of conversation, so much so that we have increased the number of flowers each year. The roses usually have a pro-chastity message attached such as “You're worth waiting for; it's never too late to wait.” Even for those who disagree with our message of chastity, it is still nice to receive a free, beautiful rose. Mark your calendars and stop by!
March for Life
Traditionally held the Monday near the decision of the court case Roe vs. Wade (January 22, 1973) to ensure that congress can experience the peaceful protest, thousands upon thousands of pro-lifers march through Washington D.C. Protesters gather in front of the White House for speakers, including the President, pro-life organization leaders, and other legislators from around the country. After this, the march heads to Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court where the march ends. More information on the march can be obtained at its website.
Christopher West
April 14, 2008
The Christopher West event was one of our largest events in the 2007–08 school year. Christopher speaks around the country and has published many books, focusing on Pope John Paul II's work entitled “The Theology of the Body.” In the spring semester, Christopher spoke to an audience of 300 or more students on the importance of chastity. He emphasized a message to the men of today that women should be respected and made a solid argument that sex is indeed worth waiting for marriage. More information on Chris and his media can be found on his website.
Day of Silence for the Unborn
Children in the womb have no voice to proclaim their humanity and innocence before their mothers abort them, so we must speak on their behalf. On April 1, 2004, Students for Life participated in a Day of Silence for the Unborn along with students from over 65 other colleges and universities. These students stood in solidarity against the evil of abortion. Instead of speaking, they distributed flyers concerning abortion and wore red armbands, showing campuses across the US that the baby victims of abortion are not given a “choice”—they are brutally killed with no regard for their humanity or their personhood.
