Warm-up
Before you begin
your practice for the day, do following repetitions with a
partner using 2 balls at first. It is boring when you dont
have a clue why you are doing each repetitions:
1. Feel the ball: Purpose:
this is most important part for the rest of the day.
Focus on the pace (repetition), starting from the front
of the court with low rail shot and slowly move back to long
rail. It is a wrong concept to start your day hitting hard
and go crazy playing points with your friends or stand still
hitting cross courts. You do that when your swings and touch
on the ball are in place. Forehand and Backhand
2. Full-court rail and
high rail: Purpose: Tight and deep, fast rail gives
you more control of the T.
Keep the ball at a good height (less than 3ft above middle
redline) and back deep but not bouncing off the back wall
high. Forehand and Backhand
3. Lob shot: Purpose:
Slow game when you need to regain energy and avoid routine.
Same with rail. Keep the ball higher than 5ft above the middle
red line and dropping behind service line. Forehand and Backhand
(Good against players with poor volleys).
4. Volley and Drop shots:
Purpose: You gotta play aggressively at the front and back
of the court.
Mid-court: practice volley and drop shots (feel the touch
on the ball) along the rail. The drop shots requires different
touch on the ball than normal long rails. So spend time to
get it near the nick at good angle.
5. Front Wall Lobs:
Purpose: Occasional but very useful, especially when you
are out of position.
Backspin, aim high on the frontwall. Imagine you are returning
a drop shot from your opponent.
6. Cross-Courts:
With your partner: Cross-court full-court, lob, volley, and
drop.
7. Serves: Lob serve,
fast serve.
If you hit hard shots and they
dont go where they should, slow down, pace your swings again.
