The Student Activity Server has been renamed to the Penn State Student Organizations Web Service and is under new management. These Web pages are out of date and will be removed in the near future. Please read http://www.clubs.psu.edu/info/ for information about the new service.
Regular FTP programs can no longer connect. You must now use a "Secure-FTP" (SFTP) program to connect. Visit the tutorials page for instructions.
You now need to log in with your Access Account and Password. This is the same account that you use to check your psu.edu email, academic info on eLion.psu.edu, access your Personal web space, dialup, and most other general PSU computing services.
Your directory has moved. It is now in the /clubs/ directory. For instance if you are on the USG webteam, you will need to change to the /clubs/usg/ directory immediately after logging in. For directions on how to do this, read the tutorials page.
Those of you with personal web space may notice that we are now using the same SFTP server. ftp.clubs.psu.edu is now an alias for ftp.personal.psu.edu. When you log in, you will start in your personal directory, and be able to "see" your www directory for your personal site. The clubs directory is much "higher" than this. Someone with the account "xyz123" will start in his/her personal directory of /.../dce.psu.edu/fs/users/x/y/xyz123/. To change to the clubs main directory, change to "/clubs/<xyz123's-organization>" (the first slash "/" is the top of the tree). "<xyz123's-organization>" should be the directory name of the organization you are in.
The Secure-FTP server is case sensitive. That means if your directory is ThisOldClub, you will now need to type "/clubs/ThisOldClub" with all of the capitals to get to it. If you want help finding what the case is, or want to change the case of your directory, send us at email at ActivityServer@psu.edu. NOTICE: The web server, www.clubs.psu.edu, is still case in-sensitive.
Shared accounts are not permitted. If you were using an account and password of another team member, you will have to apply for your own. You should also apply if you haven't asked us for an account yet. Allow for up to 2 weeks for the signed form to be processed once you submit it to our mailbox (address is on the form).
Web passwords are different than Access Account Passwords. Web passwords are allowed to be shared with several people, and are only used for making a directory on the web private. You should never use the same password for a web directory as you do for your Access Account. Access Account Passwords are used to verify your identity when attempting to change files on your personal and your organization's web sites, access to personal school records, and many other PSU computer services.
Visit our tutorials section for information on uploading.
