THE CONSTITUTION
OF
PENN STATE MONT ALTO LION AMBASSADORS
MONT ALTO CAMPUS
THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY
Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be The Penn State Mont Alto Lion
Ambassadors, hereafter referred to as Lion Ambassadors.
Article II. Purpose
The purpose of Lion Ambassadors shall be:
- A.
To promote The Pennsylvania State University Mont Alto
Campus, as well as its interests and goals among future, current, and
past students and friends of the University.
- B.
To serve as a liaison between the campus and prospective students.
- C.
To aid and assist the Penn State Mont Alto Admissions Office
in their recruiting efforts.
Article III. Membership
Section 1. Eligibility for membership
Any student
of at least second semester standing, enrolled at least part-time, with
a cumulative grade point average of 2.25 or higher. Eligibility is
also dependent upon the applicant’s judicial standing. Applicants
must not be on probation through Judicial Affairs.
Section 2. Membership selection
All interested
students must pick up an application for Lion Ambassadors from the Admissions
Office. Nominations will be accepted from faculty and staff.
The application process generally takes place during the end of the fall
semester, with new Ambassadors beginning in the spring.
Article IV. Officers
Section 1. Executive Board
The officers
shall consist of President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, and Community
Service Chair.
Section 2. Duties of Office
- A.
The President shall officiate all meetings, facilitate discussion
with group members to establish year-long goals for the organization,
meet bi-weekly with the other executive members and advisors, serve
as the primary liaison with the University Park Lion Ambassadros, hold
responsibility for communicating information to group members, and assist
with coordination of open houses, offer receptions, phonathons, etc.
- B.
The Vice-President shall, in the temporary absence of the President,
perform the duties of that office. He or she shall assist the
President withinformation dissemination, meet bi-weekly with the other
executive members and advisors, serve as the primary liaison with the
Office of University Relations, and assist with the coordination of
open houses, offer receptions, phonathons, etc.
- C.
The Secretary/Treasurer shall be responsible for taking minutes
at all group meetings and posting them to each member’s mailbox, keep
records of special events, advertise for special events, meet bi-weekly
with the other executive members and advisors, and ensure proper accounting
of funds, and coordinate advertising for Lion Ambassador selection process.
- D.
The Community Service Chair shall serve as a liaison between
the Lion Ambassadors and the Volunteer Coordinator, announcing any opportunities
for involvement in the community; ensure the organization takes part
in at least one (1) community service effort each semester, assist with
coordination of all fund-raising events, and meet bi-weekly with the
other executive members and advisors.
Section 3. Elections for Office
During
the last meeting of the spring semester, nominations will be taken from
the group members for each position. A written ballot will be used
for voting purposes, and the advisors will count the votes at the conclusion
of the meeting. Those persons with the majority of votes will be notified
that they have been chosen for said office position. In the event
of a tie-breaker, the advisors will also vote.
Section 4. The term of office of each officer shall be for
one year, beginning one day after the spring semester and ending the last
day of the next spring semester.
Section 5. If an officer is not performing the above duties
in a manner that is satisfactory to the advisor and/or to the other executive
board members, they may be asked to step down from their position, and remain
as general group member.
Article V. Meetings and Attendance Policy
Section 1. Regular meetings shall be held weekly during
the academic year at a time and place to be determined by the Executive
Board.
Section 2. Attendance is mandatory at all meetings.
Section 3. Each member will be allowed 3 unexcused absences
each year. If a member knows he/she will be absent from a meeting,
he/she must call one of the advisors and let them know of the absence ahead
of time, or it will also be deemed “unexcused”.
Article VI. Termination of Membership
Section 1. Voluntary termination: Any group member may
resign by submitting a letter of resignation to the Executive Board.
Section 2. Involuntary termination: An active member may be
removed only in the manner specified herein.
- A.
Academics: The Advisor may establish rounds for removal ased
upon unsatisfactory academic performance. These grounds for removal
must be presented in writing and approved by a majority vote of the
Executive Board.
- B.
Conduct: The advisor may, at his or her discretion, charge a
Lion Ambassador with “conduct unbecoming a Lion Ambassador” and recommend
sanctions including, but not limited to, removal. “Conduct unbecoming”
shall be defined as a violation of the Penn State Codes of Conduct,
wherein a student would be brought up on charges through Judicial Affairs.
It shall require a majority vote by the Executive Board to approve such
sanctions, and the accused Lion Ambassador shall have the right to present
a defense to the Executive officers prior to the vote.
- C.
Absentees: The Advisor may establish grounds for removal based
on violation of attendance policies stated in Article V, Sections 2
and 3. These grounds for removal must be presented in writing
and approved by majority vote of the Executive Board.
Article VII. Amendment
This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting by a majority
vote of the group membership. All proposed amendments shall be submitted
in writing one week prior to the group vote.
