We are no longer accepting applications for captain positions, however we strongly encourage anyone interested to get involved. If you have any questions you can contact Michael Warner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I hope everyone who is coming into Penn State, no matter what campus, will join in on this amazing quest to defeat childhood cancer and next year we can break 10 million! FTK!
"Remember that one day cancer will be cured and we will dance for joy. Until then, we will dance for life."
What is THON?
What is THON? THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world! The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is affectionately referred to as THON.
In 1973, a small group of dedicated Penn State students held our first Dance Marathon. That year, 39 dancer couples participated and raised $2,000. Since then, THON's presence in the Penn State community has grown exponentially. THON now has 15,000 student volunteers, 700 dancers, and has raised more than $69 million, benefiting The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children's Hospital.
THON is now a year-long effort that raises funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer. With the support of students from all across the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and THON Alumni all around the world, we continue to make great strides towards finding a cure for all childhood cancers!
Canning weekends are when students go out in groups to our local stores and stand outside to get donations. We would love if all of our Penn State students could sign up for a two hour shift. Signing up is easy. Simply find at least one friend, then go to one of our committee captains, and they will find a spot that best fits your time needs.
You Can Help!
Not a part of THON yet? Come to our next meeting and talk to us. Meetings are generally held every other Monday at 8pm in the Cafe. Other meetings will sometimes be announced by email, so talk to your friends and find out when the next one is.
Not sure what you can do to help? Helping is easy! You can join one of our committees and help our committee leaders in making this years THON as successful as it can be!
Want to help but don't have time to get to involved? That's fine! Help out by going canning on a canning weekend. It helps out tremendously! You can come to our letter writing parties and send letters home to get donations. You can also help by showing up to any one of our many fundraisers that we plan on having this year. Get a team together and participate in our wiffle ball tournament or volley ball tournament!
If you still don't know what you can do to help, feel free to contact anyone of our THON committee leaders. They will all be more than happy to help you!
