Engineer's Society of the Scranton Campus of the Pennsylvania State University

NOTE: The constitution is obsolete. Many sections of it are no longer in use. A list of temporary revisions is now available.

Article I: Name

Section I

The name of the organization shall be the Engineer's Society of the Scranton Campus of the Pennsylvania State University.

Article II: Purpose

Section I

To promote the common interest of members in the field of Engineering.

Article III: Elections

Section I

Elections of Officers shall take place three (3) weeks after the beginning of the Spring term.

Section II

The Officers elected shall be: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Under the Secretary position there shall be elected a Press Secretary and a Corresponding Secretary.

Section III

The new Officers shall be members of the Freshman class. The newly elected Officers shall assume their post after elections have taken place.

Section IV

Both Senior and Freshmen members of the Society are allowed to nominate and vote for Officers, provided that they are in good standing.

Article IV: Membership

Section I

The regular members of the Society shall be full time students maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Section II

There shall be no restriction of membership due to race, color, or creed.

Section III

Students can gain membership from the beginning of the second term to the end of the fourth term inclusive. No one will be allowed to join after the fourth term.

Section IV

Freshmen members of the school shall be admitted to the Society immediately in the fall term. No restriction shall be given to academic ability - until the second term (2.0 and full time student)! They will be called junior members.

The Junior Members shall have no actual voting power, he is an observer only, who may give opinions and suggestions.

Article V: Meetings

Section I

Meetings of the Society shall be held every two (2) weeks on a convenient date decided upon by the Members.

Section II

Special meetings shall be called when deemed necessary by the President.

Section III

An Executive Committee shall be appointed to review each agenda before each regular meeting of the Society with the club Advisor(s). It should consist of about six (6) members: Four Officers, one Junior Member, and one Senior Member, with the President having no voting power.

Senior and Freshmen on this Committee shall be appointed by the President.

Article VI: Finance

Section I

A fee of $.50 per month shall be collected from each Senior Member during the meeting.

Section II

A fee of $.25 per month shall be collected from each Junior Member during the meeting.

Section III

A Budget shall be drawn up at the end of the Spring Term by the newly elected Officers, to be submitted to the Budget Committee of Student Council.

Article VII: Amendments

Section I

Amendments to the Constitution shall be approved by a two-third majority of the Engineer's Society.

Article VIII: Advisor

Section I

Member(s) of the Faculty will act as Advisor(s) to the Society. He is a bookstore of knowledge and ideas, and should be utilized frequently.

Article IX: Agenda

Section I

An Agenda shall be drawn up by the Executive or the President prior to each meeting (one week before), and will be taken to the Advisor(s) to look over.

Article X: Minutes

Section I

The Minutes of each meeting shall be recorded and placed in the Society's notebook after each meeting. One copy should be given to the Advisor(s).

Article XI: Activities

Section I

There shall be no subversive activities against the Government of the United States, the State, or advocation of the overthrow of these governments by force.

Article XII: Absentees

Section I

Any member who misses 50% of the meetings during a term will be considered for dismissal by the club.
