Questions and Answers:

Question: Were the healings of Jesus miraculous?

Answer: To the people of his time, they were miraculous and supernatural. However, a light bulb would have seemed to be a miracle to them, while to us it is the application of natural law. Jesus was demonstrating the operation of the higher law of God through his healing work. Could such laws be learned and used by us today?

Question: What are angels?

Answer: Angels are not supernatural beings equipped with winds as depicted by artists. Rather, Angels are God's thought passing to man.

Question: What is the nature of God?

Answer: God is not a super, man-like, being with human-like emotions who answers some people's prayers and not others. The essence of God is love and intelligence supplying all our human needs. It is up to each one of us to open our hearts and minds to God the source of infinite goodness.

Question: Is there a heaven and a hell?

Answer: Christ Jesus said that the Kingdom of Heaven is within. He meant by this that heaven is not a locality but a state of mind. Heaven and hell are states of mind, here and now, that we create for ourselves by the choices we make.

Question: Do Christian Scientists believe in doctors?

Answer: We think that the practice of medicine has come a long way and that doctors do a lot of good. However, rather than turning to God when all else fails, Christian Scientists, turn to God first. By putting God first, we are reaffirming our divinity as sons and daughters of God. If our present understanding of God and our relationship to Him is not sufficient to bring about healing, Christian Scientists are free to try other means.
