Welcome from RASO!

Whether you are a new student, or returning for the 2003-2004 academic year, we'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Penn State Erie, The Behrend College and to wish you well in your studies in the year ahead.

The decision for an adult to return to school is very often a difficult one. Many of us carry tremendous responsibility with family concerns, work, etc. For others, there are concerns about entering an academic atmosphere after many years in the home or workforce. As of late, however, the decision for some of us has become much easier due to changes in the local employment climate.

What is a Returning Adult Student?

  • 24 years of age or older
  • Veteran of the armed services
  • Returning after 4 or more years of life experience (employment, homemaking, etc.)
  • Assuming multiple roles, such as parent, spouse/partner, in addition to being a student.

Whatever the case may be, The Returning Adult Student Organization (RASO) is here to help. We have all been in the same position you may now find yourself.  We also enjoyed the satisfaction of proving that we are able to take an entirely new direction in our lives. We've developed a tremendous feeling of pride from taking control of our lives. We've celebrated our victories.

The road ahead will not, by any means, be an easy one. RASO is here though, to give encouragement, advice, and most importantly, a feeling that you belong and that YOU CAN DO IT!
