National Convention

by Kimberly Maier

Every year there is a three day long convention that is attended by the president of each chapter.  This year it was hosted at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.  This year’s president, Kim Maier, attended the convention in October.  She had only good things to say about the experience.   After checking into the hotel all of the presidents were gathered in the lobby and walked to the university.  They then had dinner with the national board while getting to know everyone.  After dinner they completed a service project that was simple and fun.  They made fleece blankets for the local children’s hospital.  Saturday was occupied mainly by meetings.  The national board informed all of the presidents of their duties and obligations as president.  As a group they brainstormed on ideas for the upcoming year.  Topics such as, sparking group involvement, motivating members, service projects, social events, fundraising ideas, enticing freshmen, and monetary problems were discussed.  Amidst all of the meetings and service projects the presidents had free time to sing karaoke, explore the town, swim at the hotel pool and go out to eat with their new friends.  The convention was a wonderful experience and created lasting bonds.
