Application 2004

Beta Beta Beta Rho Omicron Chapter (ßßß) would like to extend an invitation to you to apply for membership. ßßß is a biological honor society with 430 chapters nationwide for undergraduate students who are willing to dedicate time to stimulation of scholarship, dissemination of scientific knowledge, and promotion of biological research.

ßßß’s national mission is to "encourage scholarly attainment in this field of learning by reserving regular membership for those who achieve superior academic records and who indicate special aptitude for biology and a major interest in the life sciences." However, in addition to regular membership ßßß accepts individuals at the level of associate membership. Associate membership is offered to those who may not meet all of the criteria for regular membership, but have an avid interest in biology. Associate members are eligible to participate in all local, district, and national activities with a few exceptions, which include holding chapter offices, voting on chapter membership nominations and national questions, or representing the chapter vote at national conventions. However, other than national voting privileges and the ability to hold office, associate members are fully involved in all other Rho Omicron chapter activities.

Meetings are held biweekly where we plan academic, community service, and social events. Academic programs put forth by the chapter include guest speakers, reports of research by members and faculty, field trips to areas of interest. Feed the Need as well as working with local elementary schools are some of the community service projects ßßß plans each year. Social outings such as canoeing, hiking, and camping form cohesion among the members of ßßß.

We invite you to apply to join the Rho Omicron chapter by returning the enclosed application no later than Friday November 12th to any of the chapter officers or faculty advisors. ßßß encourages you to make the most of your biology experience at Behrend. Consider joining us; together, the future possibilities of ßßß are endless.
