On Campus
On the roof of Davey Lab there are two Celestron C-8 Cassegrain reflectors owned
by the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics. There are three domes. The club
has access to all three domes, one of which contains a new telescope with a CCD
camera! Click here
to see a picture of Davey Lab taken from the roof of
Deike Building (down the
street from Davey Lab).
Portable
We have two 10-inch Dobsonian reflectors owned and actually constructed by the
Astronomy Club. We own several laser sights. All of this is very portable and
great for short trips off campus to places where the skies are darker and not
light polluted like "downtown" State College.
Off
Campus
The club has its own off-campus observatory at the recently renovated
Fox Hollow site
just north of town. Home to the club's 6-inch Mogey refracting telescope, the
site is available to members after a procedural checkout. This telescope was
previously housed on the roof of Buckhout Lab. As well, the
Black Moshannon
Observatory that is owned by the Department of Astronomy and
Astrophysics provides a very dark destination for observing. Though the club
does not have access to the building there, it is a remote location great for
setting up in the yard nearby.
