Pittsburgh, PA – October 3,
2005 The Pittsburgh Transsexual Support Groups, a Pittsburgh
based non-profit corporation for transgender support, announces the First Steel
City Gender Conference to take place Saturday November 19th, 2005 at
the Holiday Inn Select in Oakland.
The Steel
City Gender Conference will provide free lectures on the transgender community
and topics including mental, medical, and social issues will be addressed.
Lectures will be provided by area therapists or doctors, and nationally known
transgender speakers. The free lectures are open to all to attend.
The keynote
speaker for this event is the transgender author Kate Bornstein. Kate’s
publications have offered much insight on the definition of gender identity and
life as a transgender person.
Along with
the free Steel City Gender Conference, there will be several other events geared
towards the transgender community. On Friday November 18th, the
Andy Warhol Museum will host a transgender night with a
performance by Kate Bornstein. Saturday November 19th there will be
a special dinner for the patrons of the Conference to enjoy dinner with our
visiting national speakers. Sunday November 20th will be
Pittsburgh’s 2nd annual National Transgender Day of Remembrance
church service.
