3rd Annual Pride Week is coming!

Watch the event calendar for details! Our Pride Week is the 3rd week of April every year.

 

 

Accepting nominations for the first annual Dr Susan R. Rankin Award

For Leadership, Integrity, and Outstanding Contributions; Established 2007.

 

Send nominations to GSA co-advisor Jen DeCoste. This award is to be given annually to students, staff, faculty, community members or organizations who have provided leadership and service to LGBTQQIA communities and who demonstrate outstanding efforts in the following areas:

Award Criteria

Leadership
o Maintains excellence as a role model for students, faculty and staff at Penn State
o Demonstrates leadership in supporting students who are members of LGBTQQIA communities
o Represents genuine accountability in upholding the integrity of LGBTQQIA communities at Penn State

Integrity
o Demonstrates integrity in the promotion of a positive identity for LGBTQQIA students throughout the University and local community
o Values and succeeds at working with individuals who are different than herself/hirself/himself
o Challenges the status quo by taking risks to raise awareness and educate others

Outstanding Contributions
o Has made meaningful contributions to students, faculty and staff at Penn State
o Demonstrates on-going efforts to add to the support services for LGBTQQIA students, faculty and staff at Penn state
o Demonstrates care, flexibility, initiative, creativity and perseverance in all efforts

Award Process
 

The Award Process will be coordinated each year by the Pride Week Planning subcommittee of the Rainbow Roundtable.

Nominees

 

Nominations will be solicited by the Rainbow Roundtable beginning February 1st of each academic year. Nominees or nominators must provide a 1-2 page essay that speaks to the accomplishments of the nominee, given the specific award criteria. Nominations must be sent to mailto:rainbow.roundtable@gmail.com no later than Friday, March 16th, 2007.

Selection

 

The Rainbow Roundtable, or a subcommittee of that board will select the Award winner(s).

National Survey: Men Who Have Sex With Men

Being conducted by University of Missouri-St. Louis

 

A lesbian research team at the University of Missouri-St.Louis is conducting an empirical study examining factors related to sexual behavior in men who have sex with men. Click here for more info and/or to participate.

 

 

Art of Gender in Everyday Life III

A Multidisciplinary Conference

March 30 & 31, 2006. Idaho State University

 

Both graduate and undergraduate students are being encouraged to submit an abstract for this event. Prizes are offered. Abstracts for qualifying papers were reviewed and selected to be presented at this esteemed conference by the author. Here are complete details.

 

Pittsburgh's First Steel City Gender Conference

PTSG offers free educational conference on the transgender community

November 18, 19, 20; 2005, 7pm at St. Andrew Lutheran Church


With the weekend's events coinciding with National Transgender Day of Remembrance, Pittsburgh is holding it's first conference on gender "for the remembrance of those who were taken from our community based on hatred; and the communication and education of the Pittsburgh area about transgender hate bias and discrimination." Lesbian Lives VIII: Historicizing the Lesbian

A 3-Day International, Interdisciplinary Conference

Looking for an awesome way to boost your resume? Conference organizers are putting out a call for papers and are welcoming proposals for individual papers, sessions, round table discussions, and workshops. Proposals are welcomed on (though are by no means limited to) the following: Lesbian histories, Biographies, Historical Literature, Lesbian and Gay Liberation Movements, Community and Social Activisms, Histories of Sexualities, Queer Readings of History.
