
If you are interested in becoming an aerobics instructor, Rec Sports offers a training program. This program is designed to introduce the participant
to the principles of leading and recognizing safe, effective aerobic classes.
A large portion of time will be spent on movement and practice. Completion
of this course will allow you to become an Assistant Instructor with Penn
State Rec Sports Fitness. For information about this course, contact the

| TRAIN TO BE A FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Through the INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM (ITP) |
| No previous experience necessary |
Develop skills to create effective and fun choreography |
| Learn the format and proper components of a fitness class including warm-up, cardiovascular portion, cool down, and muscle conditioning |
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will become candidates to assist a PSU fitness class or work in a gym |
| Understand and uphold class safety |
Enhance your leadership skills and become a motivating instructor |
| The ITP is a comprehensive program focusing on Hi/Lo aerobics |
The ITP provides a certificate of completion (not equivalent to national certification) |
| Step, kick-boxing, and muscle toning are also covered |
Practice teaching combinations |
| There is a 40 hour total minumum commitment during the course |
Additional practice sessions, conducted by current PSU instructors will be offered |

| With the approval from the ESACT department, the Instructor Training Program provides the opportunity to earn 1.5 ESACT credits. |
The class meets two or three days per week. Days, times, and locations change with each semester. A training course is usually offered during FALL and SPRING semesters. |
