Fitness Programs is a part of the Recreational Sports program which is
administered under PSU Intercollegiate Athletics. The Fitness Program
coordinator is a graduate of Penn State and a
fitness instructor for 18 years. You can reach the program coordinator in Room 4
of the Intramural Building across from the Jordan Center, or by calling or emailing 863-1858 and fitness@psu.edu, respectively.
Fitness Programs is much more than just a one-person office in the IM
Building. The department must work hard to coordinate the time and
space for the large number of classes it offers.
All Fitness Program instructors must complete a training program
administered by our department. This is a 13-week class with a text book,
homework, and tests. After this course, they become Fitness Program
assistants, until the coordinator feels they are ready to handle classes
of their own. All instructors must continue to improve on their own, as
well as attending weekly practice sessions held by Fitness Programs. A VCR and tapes are available in the main Fitness Office where instructors can come to
watch video tapes of themselves or others to help them learn and improve.
Banks of tapes are also available for in-class usage by the instructors.
All instructors must also be CPR certified. If you are interested in
getting involved in the Penn State Fitness Programs Instructor Training
Program, please contact contact the Fitness Office.
